Director’s Message

I am happy and feel privileged to associate as the Director of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Pondicherry University. Since I took over DDE on May 2019, I tried to sort out all the existing minor issues and brought the DDE into normal track. Presently DDE is concentrating on Management discipline and offering MBA in eight concentrations – General, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management, International Business. Based on the demand, this year DDE is extended it to three more areas – Tourism, Hospital Management and Operation and Supply Chain Management. In addition to Management, DDE also offering four more PG degrees including MA in English, Hindi, Sociology and M.Com. This year DDE got the approval of the UGC to offer eight undergraduate degree programmes including BA in English, Hindi, Sociology, History, Political Science, Economics and Journalism & Mass Communication. Presently DDE is offering both postgraduate and undergraduate degree programmes under two modes. First one is Conventional Mode of education offered twice in year in January and August. Second one is Twinning Mode of education in which Pondicherry University singed MoU with few prestigious Educational Institutions in providing high quality classroom education to students. In both cases, Pondicherry University offers classes through senior faculty members those are teaching to the regular students.  Moreover, to cater to the needs of the teaching, this year DDE appointed 29 Faculty, 17 Professors as Course Coordinators, along with several full-time teaching and administrative staff.

DDE, PU first time in India conducted job fair in July 2019 for distance educated students and helped in getting job to many students. Based on the demand, again in September 2019, DDE has organized Job Fairs.  In addition to that DDE has also been arranging Workshops on making effective resumes, preparing for interviews and communication skills.

This year DDE is going to celebrate its Silver Jubilee and introduce many new things that are not done before.  Soon, it is going to have its own website on which DDE is planning to upload all teaching materials so that student can download at their convenience. Electronic copies of all the study materials both books and Power Point Presentations will be made available on the DDE website.  Moreover, DDE is also planning to upload video lectures of senior faculty members to supplement the study materials. The Centre for Internal Quality Assurance Centre of the DDE is started which is responsible in formulating polices to offer quality education. This year DDE Library also added new textbooks in all areas so that students can make use of these   resources for their day-to-day teaching and learning requirements. DDE is also going to set-up smart classrooms with teleconferencing facilities for teaching to the students at remote locations.

I thank the Vice Chancellor for his full support and cooperation to the DDE, in all respects for the better and bright prospects of the students and getting education through distance mode.      I also thank all the Faculty, Officers and Staff of the DDE for their dedication and support in achieving its objectives. We have many more plans in this year, i.e., Series of special Lectures by international experts, International Seminars/ Workshops on Knowledge Management with a vision for the DDE, PU to be amongst the five DDEs in the country.
